The morning of your newborn session

First thing to do in the morning is turn your heating on if it isn’t already.
The heat is one of the most important things during these sessions.
More so if you’re looking for some poses of baby unclothed. If adults in the room are not sweating with clothes on then its not warm enough for baby without clothes and they won’t properly sleep/settle into the poses without the warmth and comfort.

Try to stimulate and keep baby awake as much as possible before I arrive. At least 1-2 hours before our session is most ideal.

If you’re set on some of the sleepy curled up poses you’ve seen on my page, I do suggest giving baby a bath before I arrive, it really tends to help get them extra sleepy and relaxed for their session. A sleepy baby is essential for this type of posing.

The morning of it is ideal to have baby in just a nappy with a blanket wrapped around for when I arrive. If clothing then dress baby in something with a zip or snap up. Nothing that needs to be pulled over the head including any under layers. (This is so baby remains as comfortable as possible at all times)

If you’re able to time a feed for when I arrive or slightly before(up to 15mins) that would be amazing. Don’t worry if this doesn’t work out though, we can stop at any time to feed as much as baby needs. Babies tend to have a little more milk than usual during newborn sessions as it is indeed hard work being the star of your very own photoshoot. It helps them to relax that little bit further and fall into a nice deep sleep, important for posing.

Newborn sessions can be time consuming. Plan for a minimum of 3 hours.

If you have a soother/dummy for baby this is always great to have nearby for our session. It can really help soothe and settle babies into poses. Absolutely no worries though if you choose not to use one.

Patience is key for these sessions.

Mostly important of all. Don’t stress. We’ve got this. Babies naturally feed off our energy and the last thing I want you to do before your session is worry. Your portraits will naturally reflect your babies personality. If any of the above is stressing you out, just don’t worry and let it go.

I’d rather have you nice and relaxed than stressed about following any rules.
